Parameter identification is critical for modern control strategies in electrical power systems which is considered both dynamic performance and energy efficiency. This paper presents a novel application of ANN observers in estimating and tracking Salient-Pole Synchronous Generator Dynamic Parameters using time-domain, on-line disturbance measurements. The data for training ANN Observers are obtained through off-line simulations of a salient-pole synchronous generator operating in a one-machine-infinite-bus environment. The Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm has been adopted and assimilated into the back-propagation learning algorithm for training feed-forward neural networks. The inputs of ANNs are organized in conformity with the results of the observability analysis of synchronous generator dynamic parameters in its dynamic behavior. A collection of ANNs with same inputs but different outputs are developed to determine a set of the dynamic parameters. The ANNs are employed to estimate the dynamic parameters by the measurements which are carried out within each kind of fault separately. The trained ANNs are tested with on-line measurements to identify the dynamic parameters. Simulation studies indicate the ANN observer has a great ability to identify the dynamic parameters of salient-pole synchronous generator. The results also show that the tests which have given better results in estimation of each dynamic parameter can be obtained

Common modeling language for model checkers

    Get PDF
Problem statement: There are many different model checkers that have been developed. Each of the model checkers is based on different input languages and they are suitable for model checking different types of systems. Thus it is important for us to choose the right model checker or modeling and verifying a given system. However, moving from one model checker to another is not an easy task since we have to deal with different input languages. Approach: In order to solve the problem we propose a common modeling language that is based on UML state chart. Some translation rules for translating the model described in the common modeling language into the input languages of model checkers are also presented. Results: The result of the case study shows that our approach has been successfully applied in modeling the control system through the process of transformation and translation. Conclusion: Common modeling language can be used as a front end to help users to properly model a system before it is translated into input language of model checkers

The issue of inadequate enforcement of the financial supports order becomes an ongoing concern in Malaysia as well as in other countries. This paper aims to analyse the civil and criminal proceedings enforceable in the court of law against the defiance ex-husbands. Results of the content analysis revealed that the proper rules of civil and criminal procedure have been materialized to ensure the degree of impartiality in the administration of Islamic family law in Malaysia. On the other hand, the administrative machinery was found to have better enforcement power in tracking defaulters. Findings imply the need to boost up the legislative and administrative mechanisms to ensure effective execution of the financial supports order after divorce thus protecting the welfare of the divorced women. Comparative overviews with the practices from several Commonwealth and Middle East Countries where enforcement actions are in advance are also include

Eliciting requirements for a system is an important activity in requirement engineering. This process involves communication between customers and developers. Researchers have identified that poor communication is one of the most common problems in identifying and defining customer’s requirements. Managing communication is challenging and difficult as this process also includes cognitive aspect, personalities, techniques and tools. An study was carried out to explore the communication challenges that are faced by developers and customers during software requirement elicitation in Malaysia. The results of this study had shown that there are some important communication challenges during software requirements elicitation process in Malaysia. In addition, most of the practitioners were pursuing the practices that have been traditionally used by the organizations. Consequently, the results of this study have given us a good incentive to expand our research in the area of software requirements elicitation

Problem statement: Understanding on computer program is a complex cognitive activity. It is ability and also a difficult task especially for novice programmer. The object-oriented languages has widely used in education and industry recently. In programming it is important to have such software which can aid programmers or students to code the program. But, available program understanding systems using the plan based approach usually are developed for non-object-oriented programming languages. Reviewed from the available system also showed that none of the plan formalisms used is for an object-oriented language. Specifically, problem arises when the existing system is not usable for teaching programming purposes. Program understanding system with plan for object-oriented does not exist was the main reason why this research is being carried out. Approach: Method used on developed the program understanding system named CONCEIVER++ is Unified Approach (UA). The process involved from UA for developing and testing the system is iterative development and continuous testing. The process must be iterate and reiterate until satisfied with the system. In order to test the quality assurance of the system is by choosing the black box testing strategies. Results: The object-oriented program understanding system has been successfully implemented. The implementation is tested with an example of Java programming code. The binary search tree for control flow graph and linked list for plan has been generated. Results of understanding the meaning or semantic of the program codes also has been produced. The black box testing had shows that all statements of line of code of the example program have been recognized and the correctness output has been checked. Conclusion: The understanding module of CONCEIVER++, which are code/CFG processor, plan processor and recognition engine has been tested. All line of codes (or nodes) has been recognized and got correct meaning using the developed module

Application of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for frequency response in power system dynamics

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new application of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for frequency response in system dynamics. In order to perform the ANN, the power flow solution is obtained first for the system to be studied. The purpose of load flow simulation is to get some operating parameters which influence the system frequency behavior. The transient simulation of a power system is then simulated by DigSilent Simulator to analyze the frequency response of the system when it subjected to a disturbance. Simulations were carried out on the IEEE 9-Bus Test System considering load injection on the system. The data collected from transient simulation are then used as inputs to the ANN while the frequency response of the systems as the ANN output. The Lavernberg–Marquardt optimization utilizing very fast propagation algorithm has been adopted for training feed–forward Neural– Network. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed application of ANN method, its performance is compared with the actual value obtained from transient simulation. The ANN provides promising results in terms of error estimation, accuracy and computation tim

The main objective of this study was to assess the welfare of divorced women in relation to financial supports after divorce, i.e. iddah maintenance, mut’ah, arrears of maintenance, and child maintenance. The specific objectives were to determine the divorced women’s satisfaction with the amount of financial supports, the ex-husbands’ compliance to court-ordered financial supports, their satisfaction with post-divorce welfare (levels of economic strain and depression), the relationships between satisfaction with the amount of financial supports and post-divorce welfare, as well as the relationships between ex-husbands’ compliance to court-ordered financial supports and post-divorce welfare. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The sample comprised of 201 divorced women selected from the cases recorded in the year 2003 till 2005 at the Shariah Subordinate Courts of Hulu Langat and Gombak Timur, Selangor. Pearson correlation showed that two factors were negatively correlated with the economic welfare of the divorced women, i.e. the dissatisfaction with the amount of iddah maintenance, mut’ah, and child maintenance and the ex-husbands’ none or partial compliance to the court-ordered iddah maintenance, mut’ah, and child maintenance. However, on the contrary to the expectation, the divorced women’s satisfaction with the amount of all types of financial supports provided by the ex-husbands and their ex-husbands’ none or partial compliance to all types of financial supports was found to have no significant relationships with depression. The findings also indicated that the assessment of a reasonable sum of financial supports and the effective enforcement of court order were significant factors that might augment the welfare of women after divorce

The main objective of the study was to determine the Muslim women's knowledge and accesibility to the law on post divorce financial support particularly that which relates to 'iddah maintenance, mut'ah,arrears of maintenance and child maintenance. The data was collected using self administered questionaire. The sample was 201 divorced women recruited from the recorded cases for the period 2003-2005 inthe Subordinate Shariah Courts of Hulu Langat and Gombak Timur, Sekangor. The findings indicate that almost all respondents (99%) have high level of knowledge on the legal rights to post divorce financial support. However, more than two-third of the respondents (70%) had low level of accessibility to the law when claiming for post divorce financial support. The study suggests that although divorced women might have better access to legal information through reading and socialisation, the problem regarding the attitude of the court's officer, and lawyers. the complexity of the court procedures, the uncooperative attitudes and the non-compliance of the ex-husbands to the court ordered financial support did impede their accessibility to the law
